What is a Macon skunk's natural diet, and how does it get its food?

Skunks are native to North America. This means that their diet consists of food that is naturally found in the area.

Macon skunks are scavengers and are reliant on people for food. They are very adaptive animals which are able to change their diet depending on their environment.

What do they naturally eat?
Georgia skunks that live in rural areas are more inclined to eat fresh fruit, seeds and berries. They are omnivores, meaning that they will eat whatever is available to them. Their diet consists of mainly insects. When they live in rural areas, they are able to forage for fresh food that is native to the area in which they live. In urban areas, they have to rely on their ability to scavenge. They are also inclined to feast on small insects that they can find. They will also eat eggs if they come across it. They will dog holes, using their sharp claws and will eat the worms and insects that they find.

What will they eat in a pinch?
When fresh food is not available to them, they will eat garbage. They are known to knock over garbage cans to get to the contents. They will also eat pet food that has been left out. They have very thick fur that protects them from bee stings. This means that they are able to eat bees without getting hurt.

Pet Macon skunks
If you have a pet skunk, it is important to feed it correctly. If they are fed a diet that does not contain the necessary minerals and vitamins they will become ill. You will be able to buy supplements from vets or wildlife centers. This will ensure that your pet is in peak condition.

Diet
• Protein should make up 60 to 70 % of the diet of a Georgia skunk. They can get this from eggs, cheese and varieties of tinned fish. Some seeds are also high in proteins and fats and can be added to their diet.
• 30 to 40 % of their diet should be made up of vegetables. You can give them any type of vegetable that is available. In nature, they would eat what they can find. Make sure that the vegetables are raw as this is how they are used to eating it.
• Skunks love fruit and it is safe to give them.
• Skunks need to take in some fats to ensure that they have a healthy skin and coat. Do not allow them to eat a diet that is too high in fat.
